Why is that? Do they also prohibit the plumber from using PVC vents?I would also check w/ the roofing contractor if they would allow PVC up through their witches hat, in tyhis area most of them require metallic conduit, either EMT or GRC.

However even when I work in RI where plastic plumbing is allowed it will not be used through the witches hat for rubber roofing. (Commercial Jobs)
I believe it has to do with the longevity of the warranty of the roofing product.

Here a pitch pocket is usually a sheet metal circle or square that we bring pipes (sometimes many) up through and than it is filled with roofing tar. This is used with Hot mop roof jobs.
On rubber roof jobs they use a rubber gizmo that looks like a witches hat. It is cemented to the rubber roof and a spiral clamp (hose clamp) closes off the top end against one single pipe.
It is common around here. A quick look at the installation instructions from [SIZE=-1]Carlisle and Firestone, the two major manufactures of rubber roof products, shows no restriction as to the type of pipe that can be used with thier pipe flashings, of course this was a very quick look and that restriction could be burried somewhere.Don in MA there are stricter plumbing codes as lowryder88h pointed out.
