Sorry all, no code book right now, but still curious...and no, i am too lazy to look it up with the NFPA free code right now...

is it permissible to install PVC conduit underground, with RMC 90's stubbing up? the stub up can be either PVC or RMC in this case...

I seem to recall some code change disallowing RMC 90's on PVC runs...

thanks

While there is no rule against using a metallic 90 in a PVC conduit run, the 90 must be electrically bonded to provide a fault clearing path unless it is covered by 18" of earth or 2" of concrete.

ok...that's what i was thinking of...so if the entire riser was RMC/EMT, then the 90 would be bonded...thereby making it ok...cool...thank you

Yes, If you come all the way up to the panel. You need grounding lock nuts or a grd. bushing if you have eccentric knokouts.
Why would one use a metal 90 18'' underground with pvc on both ends of it.
It's allowed, I'm just wondering why some one would do that.

some guys like the RMC 90 for pulling purposes...

this particular case requires 6 parallel 2" runs about 75' under the concrete slab of a theater, then into a wall cavity and up to a pull box under the mezzanine seating (approx 15' AFF)...it would definitely be quicker and easier to run PVC underground...

looks like an RFI is in order...thanks again

A pullstring can't burn through a rigid 90.;)
