Quad Breaker Handle Ties?

I'm fairly certain that it does not.
OK, you're right, I just checked a HOM250 I had lying around, and pulling off the handle tie, you can turn each pole on and off individually. I see now that the connecting shaft between the pole can just interconnect the trip mechanisms, rather than being actuated whenever the spring tension is released.

So getting back to the topic of the OP, I expect that the listing standard for breakers requires a handle tie between any poles that are common trip? Meaning if you see a quad that doesn't come with a handle tie between the outer two poles, you know it's not common trip?

Thanks,
Wayne

If I take a standard double pole breaker and saw the handle in half, manually turning one pole off will not turn off the other pole via whatever mechanical linkage exists to provide the common trip?

Cheers, Wayne
The one's I've taken apart the internal trip is independent of the handle.
(So a mechanical issue with the handle cannot affect the breaker safety operation).
Thus correct: sawing the handle means you can trip only one side.

That part I knew. What I didn't know is whether the mechanism that causes both poles to trip when one pole actuates automatically would also cause the same effect if one pole is actuated manually. But as per the rest of this thread, it does not.
