okay after putting this in the wrong catagory the first time lets try again. in 110 we are required to install listed equipment to manufactures specification which should really be enough to cause us to use torque wrenches to torque bolts and terminations and such to those specs. however i would like to have more than that to give to my foreman who is trying to present a case for the company to provide a couple of torque wrenches..is this spelled out anywhere else in the code

Re: question about torque

I seriously doubt many do. matter of fact i really don't know of any myself. just looking for more code referances though.

Re: question about torque

Nothing says you have to use a torque wrench.

The rules are only that you tighten the connector to the recommend torque which is usually a range, as in 35 to 45 foot pounds etc.

If you can hit that range without using a torque wrench you have not broken any rules. ;)

Re: question about torque

I don't use them on receptacles or screw terminals for that matter, but all hex head terminals I do, just got into the habit. Where is really pays off is when you have to take the wire out and replace it. Its nice not to have mashed threads.

Re: question about torque

I've seen some really nice torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers that look like they've never left their spot in the gang box. I'm pretty sure that they're sold as decorations for the interior of an electrical crew's gang box.

Is that like "Turn left a quarter-mile before the big white house?"

I remember once inquiring about the torque spec for something or other from an old timer. His response was, "As tight as you can get it, plus one-quarter turn". How is that even possible?

So,ooooooooo, I don't need two driven ground rods if I can hit 25 ohms without a wiggy? :D

You I'm being sarcastic but the point is still valid. :p
