This is from the job we have been working on concerning generator start-ups. The are five different lift stations and all five risers were installed the same and all five unistrut supports are sagging in the middle. One more support or a different arrangement of the two might have made a difference.

Thom,

I bet you could 'jack' that back to level and tighten the bolts down good.

I don't think it's out of level.... just sagging in the middle of the strut.

IMPO, I wouldn't have used PVC coming out of the ground.... it's just a target for the mowers now.

I don't see what the big deal is.:-?

Yes it's sagging, yes they could of used a better setup. Is the gear going to come loose and fall to the ground? I doubt it. I see all sorts of "why the heck did they do that" installs but I don't dwell on it, unless I see a real problem.

What caught me off guard was how quickly it is sagging. Maybe this one has reached its maximum. There has been more than one of my installs I have wished I could tear down and start over and hope I never see posted here.

I misread your first post Thom, I didn't realize you guys were the ones who did the initial install. I hear you though on the jobs you wish you could do over. I'm still fairly new, so I call it "learning experience" and try to remember what not to do next time.

Our shop builds quite a few stanchions per year similar to what you have posted. One style we build is made out of back-to-back strut, used for both the legs and horizontals using bolted strut brackets at the joints. That probably would have worked well for you here, unless the pipe legs in your pic were existing and you just fastened the strut to them. Pvc expansion fittings may have helped too, if you have a lot of ground movement. Luckily, not an issue we have here.

Ah, like gravity isn't a constant!

If the poles where closer together then equipment load to the vertical structures would be better.
AKA- a perfect example ot "Tick-Tack- Toe" is better than an "H" structure.

You read right the first time (I think :-?) We had nothing to do with the install. We sold the generators third party over two years ago and are just now getting the call for the start-ups. The job is over 2 hours away and the GC has an EC.
