I have a 400 watt MH it came wired at 277 I need 240 so I cut the lead from the ballast to the capacitor and wired it to the 240 lead off the ballast. So now one line goes straight to the socket the 240 lead off the ballast goes to the capacitor the other lead from the capacitor goes to the common on the ballast and the other common off the ballast goes to the socket. The 277 lead I cut from the capacitor was not labled and was seperate from the other leads on the ballast.

I am not sure what I did wrong but there are 12 lights and none working, any help would be appreciated. TIA

Norm, on multitap ballasts, L1 goes to the ballast lead marked 240,L2 goes to the ballast lead "com".Ballast lead "cap" goes to the capacitor, black lead from cap goes to lamp, 2nd ballast lead "com" goes to lamp.Cap off all remaining tap leads individually.
