to supply a 2100 box in the attic (or pull in feeders for another panel in the attic).

Stupid question, but is a 2100 box like a 1900 box only 200 larger? We use 1900's and Deep 1900's and 1/2" 1900's and combo 1900's around here...

I hear 1900's are also called foursquare boxes, but not by anyone I know. We also use 4/11's. But I've never run into a 2100.

ya learn somethin new every day.

I never have a 4/11 blank on the truck when I need one. I should just get a box of them sometime...

Gotta be my favorite box, 4 11/16 X 2 1/8. I wish I could use it for everything... so much space to move around in there! If you get tired on the job, you just curl up with a pillow in your 2100 deep box and take a nap. If only space and job specs allowed them all the time ;)

With that tall a structure, wouldn't you need to fire-stop it every so often?

The chase was there when I got there and I did not change anything.

We did fire stop the hole we made from the chase on each floor to the ceiling area.

Permissible or not, I don't recommend it. To me it says "Hack!".

If I had to get 15 floors up, I'd be using the chute too.

So using an abandoned laundry shoot is "hack" unless it is 15 floors? Exactly what is the official floor level deliniation between hack and not hack? Just want to make sure I am on the right side on this.

I'd say 4 floors and up, no hack. Unless it's 2 floors without a straight-up plumbing wall. Below that, hack. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I don't want to be hack. This is a old duplex and the walls are all plaster, not mark on any of them. To address all the concern about using the clothes shoot, I am thinking of running my NM-B cable in flex. Then sealing off the shoot at the open ends.

I work mainly in a industrial environment . I have seen wires/cables installed in every type of duct or hollow chase you can imagine . The only thing is , I am the one that has to service it when it does not work .

Don't waste the flex. It is not necessary. If you still feel this is a better method for whatever reason just run mc.
