I went to a model center today to review a few of the houses I am considering bidding some work for.
I performed a general walk through and discovered an interesting installtion at the well system equipment. The well equipment is on a 6' by 3' concrete slab with the nearest edge approximately 16" from the house itself. The pump motor is on the slab and is cord-and-plug connected. The receptacle for this is installed on the house. The way the cord gets to the outlet is by means of a 1.5" PVC conduit. The conduit is straped to the slab, 90'd up the wall and ends just below the in-use cover for the receptacle. The entire run is approximatley 24". The cord runs through the pipe, pokes out the other side, and is plug in.
I noticed there was an inspection board still present so I took a look inside to see how the inspections went. Sure enough, two weeks ago there was an advisory that the stated, "the cord for the well pump presents a trip hazard and is exposed to damage from weed eaters and garden tools." A week later, presumably after the handy-dandy conduit install, the job was signed off.
The work is in a jurisdiction north of where I normally work so I am not familiar with who the inspector is or I would ask him what the deal is. Is this in violation of any particular article in the code, and if so, what hazard does this present to warrant the restriction. ?
