Raintite

We installed these a year ago. I guess they were raintite for a while.

Black rubber gaskets have bit the big one. Fittings are at least twice the price and are worse than what they replaced in less than a year. These won't matter because of the placement on the boxes and we do not rely on conduit for an EG.

for what it's worth, it does not look like those were tightened down all the way. At leaset I don't usually end up with that much exposed thread on those fittings. I don't know if that could in any way impact the gasket, seems unlikely though.

I agree, thats an awful lot threads still exposed. Seems like it could have used a few more turns.

Okay, do you tighten down so the gasket is totally distorted out of place to begin with or do you allow the gasket to try to act like a seal for the less than 12 months that it lasts exposed to the weather? Either way this design is a POS.

I think the others were commenting on the compression side, lots of threads showing. I agree with you on the enclosure side, those rubber gaskets are worthless. Try to tighten them they just squish out.

All in all I have been pretty dissapointed with the emt fittings available as of lately. The lock nuts on some are crap, while the compression nuts will not tighten down very far at all before they become cocked.

Nothing like busting your behind all day in the hot sun and having do deal with junk parts to boot.

If they are below the live parts they are not required to be wet location fittings.

Are those 3R enclosures or are they better then raintight?

The compression side is tight.

Upper enclosure is typical gasketed box full of goodies other is pump panel with entry below live parts.

So I could have used set screw connectors in this location? Not quite sure when I will suggest that to my AHJ.
