Are the supports for a raised floor in a data processing room required to be grounded or bonded to the system ground or structural steel?

Re: Raised computer Floors

Good question. The answer is yes if there is any chance for the supports to come in contact with any electrical circuit. So if there are any type of electrical circuits run under the raised floor you are required to effectively ground the raise floor support structure as a whole.

However to what degree you do this is another question.

The degree in which you bond is a design issue. Theoretically you could run one conductor to the floor system and rely on metal stringers to bond the rest of the floor system. Most, if not all go further than the minimum.

I have seen them connect every 4th pedestal to the ground. Some floor manufacturers will specify at what intervals to ground.
