Have a hard wired range hood (draws about 3 amps) on the lighting circuit in the kitchen. Is this permitted?

Hardwired yes, make it cord and plug then no.

Actually no it isn't, but I had someone today insisted that all range hoods required separate circuits. The only reference I could find was for cord and plug connected. Thanks for the confirmation.
