Recent test had a range question: Dwelling

1 12 KW Oven

1 9 KW Cooktop & 10 KW Oven same branch circuit

Do you work all 3 and go to column C 14 KW & the 5%

Or do you work them seperate then combine the 2 totals, then col c?

Re: Range Question

Did you look at the last sentence of note 4 to table 220.19?

Re: Range Question

Ok, so my connected load is 31 KW

I use 8KW and add the 5% for each KW over

So would it be 8KW x 1.15= 9.2 KW?

I think I am working this wrong.

Re: Range Question

First of all, it is important to know if the question is asking for the demand to the service or to the branch circuit.

If the question askes for feeder-service demand, you must use Note #2. This note requires all ranges of unequal value to be averaged. You then use Column C to find demand and if over 12-kW, apply the 5% increase per each kW. (min. of 12-kW for each)

12 + 12 + 12 = 36 / 3 = 12-kW, Column C = 14-kW demand on the service.

Now if the question asks for branch circuit demand, you must use Note #4. The note allows us to add up to 1 counter-mounted appliance and up to 2 wall-mounted appliances to be added up an considered one appliance.

12 + 9 + 10 = 31-kW, Column C = 8-kW + 95% = 15.6-kW.
