not every contractor lies on permit forms ,that being said I never would base my price on what I saw on a permit but if you saw on the last 10 service upgrades the claimed cost was averaging at 2000.00 and you were charging 1000.00 you may want to re evaluate your price.

fair enough...but how about going to the local contractors association meetings and talking with other guys? wouldn't it be better if we were all friendly competitors?

AZ. 4 trucks, eight guys.

Most of our work is bid. Lots of service and remodel.

T&M is $85 and is OFTEN not a money maker. There ARE exceptions though.

The first liar would not stand a chance. In a perfect world it might work but in my world it would never work. Most of the contractors were former employees of others who left under less than friendly terms I had one who worked for me who went after my customers before he quit. The few of us ole timers left still talk but most of the new kids are to scared of each other to have any type of colaberation.

Hi all! This is my first post here, so I'll try to keep it short. The company I work for (mostly residential remodeling, service calls, and lately some commercial) charges $60 for a journeyman and $90/hr for 2 journeymen. Two of us out of three use our own vehicles to go to the jobs, the other guy has a company van and the company owns the shop. Only one of us gets medical coverage, so low overhead for the owner. AFAIK, salaries are in the $16-$25 range (supposedly pretty much the average for non-union shops around here). Average home price for the town the shop is based out of is $511,000.

P.S. I've really been enjoying reading this forum lately! Thanks to you all :)

Peter
