Re-using old feeders

We recently megger tested old feeders to possibly re-use for temp power. The feeders are 20 years old. It was recently decommissioned and scheduled for removal until we suddenly have a requirement for temp power. This is an option being considered.

We got results at 3Mohms over a 1000V. Although it is low, the insulation held up.

Are there any guidelines to follow when re-using old wires? NETA only covers new wires.

is it even worth re-using?

any comment is appreciated.

Why not just use the NETA standards for new wires? If you comply with those, you know you're good.

If you don't meet these standards, purchase a new set-up that you can re-use on multiple jobs. I have an outdoor panel that I bring with me to service upgrades so that I can temp power with proper overcurrent protection... but this isn't what I saw or see on most service upgrades. I've seen vehicle jumper cables used, lol.

From what I understand, ideally the only difference between temporary and new installations is the time period (w/ a few exceptions outlined in 590), even though this isn't the attitude you find in the field in most cases.
 
What is the size and length and how long will they be in use? That drives a lot of the decision. If they can meet standards as new (don't forget to clean around the terminations before measuring, use 'em.

If not- do some thinking about how to make a compliant installation and whether it makes sense to buy or rent the kit you need. If you haven't already, read Art. 590.
 
If failure of the feeder did not pose any real hazzard to people or property I would use it, if it did pose a hazzard probably not.
