Now wait a minute, isn't Whirlpool a brand name also?

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

Sure Whirlpool is a name brand. But unless you are soaking in your washing machine I don't think it matters. :D

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

A TV behind glass is a good idea. However, ordinary glass will not transmit the infrared telegraph signal from the remote. You need specially formulated glass.

A hole in the glass probably would not work as it would need to be rather long maybe even tall to work. This would defeat safety.

For the right price the TV's infrared sensor could be relocated to a place that does work, but I would rather use infrared transparent glass.

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

Not all remotes are infrared. What i dont understand is why they need to be in a tub that long.I can jump in shower and in 5 minutes come out clean and never mis more than a few commercials :D

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

I just tried it and it works perfectly. Glass reduces UV through it, I've never seen that it stops infra red.

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

I started doing tv work in 69 and only the rich had color and even a cheap B&W was $200 and them remote jobs had a motor to turn the tuner knob LOL

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

That tuner assy' was like 4" dia. and 6" to 8" long. Big old 40 lb lock pawl (it seemed like). Wee.

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

Yes it was and do you remember what all was involved in lining up the 3 guns in the picture tubes ? Actually made fantastic money back then. Was taking home about $300 a week and a new car was only about $2500, beer was 15 cents for draft and gas was 29 cents a gallon

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

I didn't do TV repair, or buy beer when it was 15 cents. But If I remember correctly, they used inuctive alignment which means that you would have to either physically move the yoke coils or use potentiometers to to do the same thing electrically. The former being the earlier method.

In oscilloscopes the electron beam is controlled by a plate with a static charge instead because that doesn't insert inductance that would alter the signal.

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

You passed.Todays computers line them up and can correct them with magnetic strips. It use to require a hatch generator and often took an hour or more to even come close.I was lucky at getting into that job just out of high school with no real training.I learned on the job. Also knocked on my butt a lot of times from them charged picture tubes.Maybe thats whats wrong with me today :D

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

That wasn't the picture tube, it was B+ that Rattus puts in his signature. No bleed resistor on the filter capacitor I'd imagine.

Edit: Or am I mixing that up with the 10K or so at the front grid of the CRT. I don't even remeber the right terminology.

Re: Receptacle location by a jucuzzi

I also learned that a tube w/out any picture doesn't mean it ain't charged. WOW  That is such a damn surprise.
