Is there a code requirement "2005 edition",about the location of receptacle's within 3 feet of a shower or tub? Thanks in advance..

Only if the receptacle is in a mobile home, and it is not a new rule in that Article .

Yes, the requirement is for a receptacle within 3' of the outside edge of the basin. This is in 210.52(D). Not this section but its exception is new for 2005.

Good question. Actually the original post asked about 3 feet which is a basin requirement and it also asked if this were new for 2005. It isn't, but the exception to that section is new for 2005.

The receptacle can be anywhere outside of the tub and shower footprint as long as it meets the 3 foot basin requirement.

Groovy. I just read it different. I thought that the original person was asking if a receptacle had to be at least 3 feet away from a tub or shower.

But nothing says that said receptacle outlet has to be within 3 ft of a basin ,only that there shall be a receptacle within 3 ft of the basin it serves.
While on the subject of sink basins,1 duplex can serve 2 basins if in between them

This thread is the textbook example of how simple questions end up going three hundred posts. Don's answer was all that was needed. The question is about a tub or shower nothing to do at all with a "basin".

Isn't this redudant?

The original post asked about a receptacle being 3' from a shower or tub. Yes, this does not mention the basin. I was just pointing out that maybe the original post had confused the 3' basin rule and with the requirement that the receptacle being outside of the tub and shower area, hence my response. There is a 3' rule regarding receptacles in a bathroom it just does not pertain to the tub and shower area.

I concur with electricmanscott....when things get out of hand, I go to another web site...that electrical-contractor.net has one or two interesting ideas worth looking at! Thanks Scott!!
