Re: Receptacles Above Grid Ceiling?
I have a for instance I would like to ask.
At our site we have a very large room that can be split by a folding divider. It is normally used for large meetings and training, but occasionally, the room is used for small expos and requires power in the middle of the room.
In the past this was done by running some temporary cord thru the concealed ceiling to a 225 amp panel that is almost empty. The circuits have always been appropriately protected by circuit breakers. But, flex cord in the ceiling is not allowed, with few exceptions.
What I would like to do is put in some 50A recepts in the concealed ceiling and use spider boxes for these events. These events usually last 1 or 2 days. I am aware that the recepts do not pose an issue, and can be installed by code, but it's the flex cord on the spider boxes that are the issue. The ceiling tile would be slid over to allow the cord to pass thru.
If they are installed and the a state inspector (WA) is on site and sees them connected for an event, what will happen? Told to disconnect, fined, nothing ???
Thanks
