Receptacles in J Blocks!

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

I don't know how I missed this thread, but anyway,

We've been using the Arlington DBVS1W since they came out. They are great. Easy to install.

We're buying them by the case and the price break makes it well worth it.

There was another company a years ago that had their version of this.
They were well before their time.
I had been trying to get my supply house to become a vendor of them and had finally given up.

I can't remember the company name anymore.

Arlington makes alot of useful items.

Another is the Ceiling Fan Box for peaked ceilings.
Builders love it because they don't have to worry about any special framing, or fancy drywall work.

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

I have to first say that I haven't read a post on this topic yet. (I know). At first I thought this stuff looks kind of cool. Then I thought about my experiences with this siding.

I don't like this siding. If the quality of these accessories are anything like the stuff they're meant to work with I'm not interested.

Of course I'll actually take a look at the thread and see if my opinion can be changed.

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

Ok. Now that I've read the thread I'll move on to taking my foot out of my mouth. These aren't quite what I thought.

Not being associated with the yicky siding but instead providing a solution to mounting fixtures on it, it looks like pretty cool stuff.

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

They work reat with stucco too.

The stucco guys run their screen into the j-channel and continue on.

Arlington also makes another version DBVR1W that can be installed after stucco and mounts with 4 screws and a bead of silicone behind it.

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

Ty, since you have hand-on with these, and use them all the time, I have to ask: How do you guarantee it will be in the middle of the slat on the siding? Or does it look okay off center in the end?

I'd be interested in using these, but am squeamish about it. Siders have a reputation for not caring about where our electrical devices/lights end up. :D

What's your cost on these?

fishin'
I've used the doorbell button piece one time. That was the only time I've ever needed to use it, but it was nice that it was availible.

George,

It doesn't matter if it ends up in the middle or not.
It has a built-in j-channel all the way around, so the siding guy just cuts his siding into the channel.

Re: Receptacles in J Blocks!

I've used these from Arlington for the last 3 years or so and am satisfied with their look and durability. They are a lot heavier gage than standard siding j-blocks. I used the ones for mounting coach lights first and liked them as well. The mounting block for mounting meter bases on siding are great too. Since I have used these items the siding contractors like me better. I just wish Arlington made them in a few more colors. Gray, clay and tan are popular siding colors around here and while they are paintable, I'd rather just take them out of the box and mount them.

It doesn't matter how the box falls on the slat. The siding slats slide into the lip that's incorporated around the box. That's the beauty of them. You can install it and walk away with no worries as to how it falls in the siding, unlike other types of lap siding.

It's true Al, we do have tons of stucco out here (Hah, tons of stucco--get it) but there's plenty of everything else too.

I like the idea of building these into the stucco too.
