Can anyone tell me where to find an exception that lets me feed some general purpose receptacles from the life safety branch as long as they are in the same room as the transfer switch for life safety? I just know I've read something to that effect before, but can't quite seem to place it.

This is for a computer center, not a hospital, for what's that's worth.

Thanks.

A computer center would not have a life safety branch system. Life safety branch systems are only used in health care facilitys.

What you are talking about would be either a emergency system (Article 700) or a legally required standby system (701).

In either case you can only feed emergency loads from an emergency system or leagally required standby loads from a legally required standby system.

If what you have is optional standby system then you are permitted to feed any load you choose.

"Life Safety Branch" is only in 517 applications and since you say this is not a hospital, (I assume you mean healthcare facility) you would need to look at part IV of article 700.

I should add that the alternate power source can provide power for emergency, legally required standby, and optional standby systems in accordance with 700.5(B) and 701.6.
