Receptacles on residential circuit

I did a 12' by 12' room with 8' ceiling once and the best I can remember it was close to 6500 receptacles that would fit in that room. This is with one window and one door. It would be a little less if there was a closet door but then again if you cover the ceiling and floor with receptacles......

Seems like I might have left out a word or two. It should have read something like this

I did the math on a room.........

you know, took a plate cover and drew around it then moved over and drew another and so on and so forth then went back and counted them all. Took a little while but I got er done

My remodeled bedroom does have 43 devices all ran in emt and running fine on 1 20 amp breaker.Most of them are for lighting up the wifes light house collection and they take maybe 1 watt each, only big load is 3 computers,tv,int. center.
 
As far as a test question you may be asked about calculating anticipated loads. For example a duplex recep would be calculated @ 180va, and if you have an available 20 A circuit then you would be limited to the # of receps based on the calculation.
 
Well, if your doing the entire house load, and running it to it's bare minimum, here's my thoughts. After your AFCI's for your bedrooms. After your 1500 VA's for SA for your kitchen, which can include also the dining , breakfast room and simliar areas. After your recept that's required for your laundry and last but not least your recept for your bath. 210.11 (B) states that the remaining portion needs to be evenly proportioned. So if you have 4 outlets left afterwards or 400, depending on your calculations needed for the amount of circuits, you can split 'em up evenly to hearts content.
 
Bottom line is the customer will be going after you if they trip breakers because you put all 6 bedrooms on 1 afci rated at 15 amps.When i was doing residential i put master on its own and never more than 2 other bedrooms on another.Also never had complaints.
 
IMO this is something that needs to be changed. AC window units are so cheap now that people have 2-3 of em put in their house vs purchasing a central system. That is the good thing with the afci's. It limits the bedroom circuits. It does not stop from putting other outlets on that circuit but it does help with removing that circuit from the living room, where AC units are more than likely to be.
 
Well I may be alone but I usually put each bedroom on it's own, I feel if someone is paying me to give them a quality wiring job in a new house I feel I'm letting them down by going cheap. The extra cost is such a small percentage of the whole job. If they want me to cut costs then I let them decide but it's not my standard. I don't do many spec houses but maybe I would cut back if the contractor cut my budget. I prefer working for the homeowner and not contractors. Well most:-o

If you have 9 home runs all landed on the same 20 amp breaker, it's still only one circuit.
You mean 9 plugs on a 20 amp breaker, right ?

160 square feet is the size of some walk in closets.
Is the whole house 12 feet by 13 feet or did you mean 1600 sq' ?

I couldn't have said that any better, There's nothing wrong with a little Quality, should be the standard not an option.
 
Sorry about the typos dnem. Yes I did mean 9 devices and a 1600 sq ft house. I guess being a contractor with 15 projects going all at once I was in a little bit of a hurry and made a few errors. Noticed you are an inspector. Hope the typing to inform me of my mistakes didn't hurt those tender fingers.
