RECEPTACLES

I say install boxes and recpt. horizontally then we can decide grnd. on left or grnd. on right Rolling Eyes

The IEEE White Book already beat you to it. They mandate Ground left on horizontal receptacles. This puts the Grounded conductor on the top, for the same reason that they mandate ground on top. (stainless steel plates that become loose and fall onto the blades of a partially disconnected plug).

Oops, never mind, the White Book is only for Hospitals and Health care facilities! 8)

Now we all know that if you put the ground down the electrons won`t fall out the receptacle and onto the floor :p
Exactly, and if by accident one gets turned up side down you need to get them electrons back into it fast.Be sure to turn power off before doing this to prevent a shock hazard.

It's too bad they don't have an "American Idol" type show for comedians because most of you would qualify. It would be tough picking finalists. I can't remember when I've laughed so hard.

Anyway, as suggested, do a search back through the "archived" posts. There were many opinions on this topic. From what I remember there were better arguments for ground up than for ground down but both are correct there are no codes that dictate which way is the correct orientation.

The IEEE 'recommends' it does not mandate

Bob,
You're right. Thanks for pointing that out.

In the electrical world, recomendations are recomendations and mandates are mandates.

In marital life however... :D  :?
