But not class 2 wiring! If one were to plug in what is commonly called a "wall wart" there is no "Cord" exposed .... the load is the transformer. Beyond that is considered class 2 wiring and not subject to the same rules.


Right, those conductors are usually not covered by Article 400. But if you where to used cord from Article 400 for Class 2 wiring you could not put that in a ceiling either.
 
This is a common scenario with ceiling mounted cameras or wireless node power supplies. IF they utilize a wall wart, you can plug it into an outlet above the suspended ceiling.

But those are fast becoming a moot point, since the newer units utilize power supplies that feed thru the CAT-5 cabling and don't need any additional external power.
 
Would a piece of MC cable made up with a plug be considered a flexible cord?
Even if it wasnt if changed you would probally void the ul listing
