Is this a state amendment or just his opinion? if you are in the 8' x 3' zone then the trims are required to be rated for damp location, if the luminaire is subject to shower spray, THEN you need a wet location trim, but I have yet to have a shower head pointed at the ceiling...

this is just his opinion.

Are you saying that this is just Stickboy's opinion?

I guess I was asking artis 74 if his inspectors that don't allow open trims above a tub or shower do allow open trims in outdoor overhangs. Both are damp locations unless normally subject to spray then they are wet locations.

Great question, but this makes me have a question of my own. I have seen many Shower Units have recess light/fan. My question is shouldn't the light socket be made of brass???

As far as I am concerned all light socket shells (which is what I think you are getting after) should be made of brass, and all screw type based lamps should have brass bases. The siezed up lamp in the socket does not happen if you don't have aluminum components.

You know what cracks me up is the sick logic that goes through some peoples heads, i.e., requiring GFCI protection for recess lights above a shower, or even the wall mounted fixtures in the picture that Dennis posted of the bathroom... YET, NEVER have I been requested to GFCI a post light or a single outdoor light fixture... Anyone like to explain the difference to me?

410.10 is clear. If the light is in the dimension of the tub then it only needs to be rated damp location unless it is subject to shower spray. A hydomassage tub does not generally have a shower so the recessed cans do not need to be closed cans. Almost all cans are rated for damp location anyway.
