Homeowner has Lightolier 5" recessed non IC fixtures installed in kitchen and living room. At some point he removed the housing/trims and installed HD LED retrofit trims. He just had 15" of blow in insulation installed and he is now concerned LED trims are smothered with insulation. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

He could go up into the attic and install suitably vented "hats" or "stovepipes" to keep the insulation away from the trims. He might have a point about the lifetime of the LED electronics being adversely affected, especially if there is no ventilation space between the face of the bulb and the trim.

Are you talking about the new waffle LED that have a junction box and driver connected with a lead
If so they can be in contact with insulation

Were these "open style" fixtures? As in with just a ring at the opening and trim goes directly into open space above ceiling. Or is it a "can" with a trim that goes into the can?
