I've got a recessed fixture above the soffit outside near front door, approximately 6x9. The lamp holder is shot and last year I saw the wires leading to it are also going bad. The previous owner hacked in some lamp holder in the past. Any way once it gets warmer I was just thinking of yanking the complete housing and replacing it from the attic.. For the life of me I can not find a single housing on line that matches even close to these once common ceiling fixtures. Have a similar one on the slope above the basement stairs. Trying to get an exact match in l and w because of aluminum soffit with panels around 5 inches apart.

Will try and see if I get any help under the lighting section. I may be off on measurements but I'm sure 6x9 is close.

What kind of fixture is 6x9. I have never seen that unless it is a fluorescent fixture. Can you take a picture of it...?
I can get a picture. It's approximately a 6x9 rectangular housing with a glass lens that's attached with those long prongs that slide up into a slot on each side. Uses a regular 60W incandescent bulb. Put in when house was built maybe around 1950 or so.
