Red conduit for fire alarm?

They're putting up a new building and we got a tour. It looks like they're painting the conduit runs involved with the fire alarm/sprinkler/etc. red to identify them as such. Is this new or old or region specific?

Many jobs in our region, conduit identification is required by specifications/AE, fire alarm is always red and vendors now sell red, blue, yellow EMT conduit. Most likely what you saw was red EMT conduit being used for fire alarm as electricians normally are not the best painters on the job.
