Reduced neutral

I am getting materials together for a pole barn. I am planning on running a 100 amp line fed off of my main panel. It is about 120 feet away. The local electircal supply house is reccomending #2 AL wire, with a reduced neutral (#4) and ground (#4 CU). What does the NEC say about reduced neutrals? and are the wire sizes appropriate?
