remote control lighting

Good afternoon,
I was asked today how reliable or durable is remote control lighting. Scenario is a barn where the OP wants to have 6 different zones of lights or call them bays. We were introduced to these receivers and transmitters that do not require wire from the switch to the fixtures which are scheduled to be fluorescent. How well do these work. catalog make them sound great but want to see what you people had to say. What issues can we expect or are they worth it. We were also told we could program them so that two switches could control one bay as a three way switch would do. The way I understand them to operate, is we run our power to the light interrupt the circuit with the receiver box and then to the fixture, when the transmitter is selected it energizes the light fixture. Thanks in advance.
