Q. is there a code listing that states "abandon wire and cable shall be removed during remodel" ? or something like that, can't find it in code book.
And, you're surprised why?He called back and all he said was "code doesn't address that"! No I'm sorry I was wrong, no nothing, just that code didn't address it.
this is the same disagreement i had but was not smart enough to ask him to show me were it was , just ripped the old stuff out.to be done with it .I had a disagreement with an inspector once over this. I was being paid for a specific scope of work while the house was also being remodeled. There was some abandoned NM left in the wall and attic. The inspector was insisting that I remove it because it was against code to leave it. I explained that all I ever saw in the code was what Roger stated about abandoned communication wiring and others in that chapter. I told him I knew of nothing in chapters 1-3 about it. Also I wasn't being paid to remove it nor was I the one that abandoned it.
I asked him to show me in the code book and I would then comply. He said he would check with his boss. He called back and all he said was "code doesn't address that"! No I'm sorry I was wrong, no nothing, just that code didn't address it.
