I have an old 30 breaker electrical service panel (from the early 1980's) that the main breakers are twisting to the side more and more and the cover panel no longer fits properly over them. I have decided that it is time to replace the service panel with a new one, as I feel this is turning into a safety issue. I purchased a new Levinton 30 breaker SMART service panel, which of course the new panel box is not the same size as the old one.
The old box has the 6" length of conduit from the meter box to the current panel and it is 26.5" from the top of the box. The new box knockout is 34.5" from the top, which means that the new panel will extend considerably higher than the old panel. I do not think that this will be an issue, but just I am checking as to if there is any height restrictions for a panel install?
I am looking to have this issue (if it is one) cleared up in my mind so that when I get the electrician to install the new panel it will not be an problem that will need to be resolved at that point.
Thanks
