Replacing oven feed because of generator install??

Had an inspector remind me to be careful of 250.140 exception 3 while talking about a residential standby system. Anyone ever heard of having to replace old SE cable feeds to dryers/cooktops or wall ovens [FONT=inherit !important][FONT=inherit ! important][/FONT][/FONT][FONT=inherit !important][FONT=inherit ! important][/FONT][/FONT]because the main panel becomes a subpanel once the transfer switch is installed?

AHJ call. I have seen jurisdictions where it is required.

I'm trying to figure out the reason for this rule, and if the appliance whip has the neutral and ground bonded together as they all do, why can't I move the braid to the ground bar in the panel and call it a ground?

Because it is a Grounded conductor, not a Grounding conductor.

Talk about nit picking.:rant: I can understand the reasoning for this (and technically the EI is correct) but I can't see making you replace the SE if it's buried inside finished walls and ceilings. If it's an easy change out I would just do it. Why don't EI's look for ways to pass jobs rather than find abstract ways to fail it ?
