Resi to Commercial: tips?

I can feel your pain. I was a residential electrician with over 12 years experience with a Masters. I decided to move into the commercial field and it was tough, at least with the contractor that I worked for. I had a two year apprentice that could bend conduit with perfection and I couldn't bend a 90. To your advantage conduit seems to be a lost art as MC is taking over. It is easier to install but usually very sloppy. It was little demeaning at first. As I have grown older I now know that we all have something to offer and have to start somewhere. Good-luck...you will do fine. You have life experience to get you through.

I have a specific Arch ruler that lives on my dash board with 2 of 3 sides with red spay paint on them - specificaly for 3/8 scaled prints. Did this after realizing I was spending half the day turning the thing over......

I have the 3-sided ruler, and it is great for scaling prints. (Love the spraypaint idea!)

Jack Benfeilds guide was and is very helpful for conduit bending.

Some more advice =/

Some more advice =/

*. Never scale when doing a slab ( use the floor plan)
*. look over the the specs ( div. 16) sometimes MC is forbidden...min size conduit / wire.....spec grade devices etc.......
*. Don't forget to look over millwork and elevatons drawings to "hit" knee spaces and correct counter height in office bldgs, and banks and such ( not always one standard height like in resi)
*.Never let a Super rush you or intimidate you into doing something you know ain't right...the more your rushed the more you need to slow down and think.
* Don't forget ADA specs and heights..
I could go on and on and on, but experience is the way your really gonna learn it, and I think you'll find commercial is different but still a challenging and lucrative part of this trade.........Good Luck Brother!
