Unless you are exempt for some reason from most recent AFCI rules, many of us just use a dual function GFCI/AFCI breaker on diswashers anymore. They cost less then a AFCI breaker plus GFCI at the unit.
The only problem I have with that is that an AFCI-GFCI breaker is not usually “local”. In addition, if the DW is wired direct it would require a breaker lock. It’s difficult enough trying to teach a HO how to reset a breaker nevermind having to get past a breaker lock on top of that.

It takes care of both AFCI and GFCI requirement without needing to deal with "readily accessible" requirements at the appliance. Cord and plug option at the appliance is simplest, but if you are against that then you still have same options as you otherwise had less the readily accessible requirement if the GFCI is back at the panel, and the AFCI almost always needs to be at the panel as well.

You make a good point. I just thint it’s more of a PITA to have to walk down to the basement to reset the breaker.
