I have existing building 3 stories occupancy classification R3 , nfpa 101 classification residential going to R3 nfpa 101 classification residential board and care for 8 to 16 people.

The 3 stories building has sleeping units, kitchens, living area, sitting area, bathrooms

I am wonder if NEC 2017 section 517 or any another article or section of NEC 2017 has anything to cover in regards to above area? Does anyone know?

What state?
these residential rest homes have some weird requirements that are spelled out in state amendments.

Project is in MD. Would not any NEC 2017 apply?
I don't believe that there are any NEC special purpose/circumstance provisions for this sort of occupancy, which might be an I-1 if I read your comments correctly, depending on any state/local amendments. In fact, if there are, as you state, 8-16 persons, then the proper designation per the IBC is an R-4 (6-16 persons), and only I-1 if more than 16 persons. Maryland uses the IBC but allows local amendments.

I’m not saying it doesn’t apply. I was just saying that some localities have a lot of extra provisions for these type of residences.
As an example when you put in smoke detectors are they all on the same circuit in the NEC?

That wouldn't be a question the NEC can answer. You need to go to NFPA-72. And it doesn't specify. See 29.6.3 in the 2016 edition.

I realize that.
I know the answer, it’s just the answer he is seeking isn’t as cut and dried as he makes the question seem.

last one of these I did was a little confusing because of the special requirements.

Would not post #1 fall under limited care facilities, nursing home, dorm or guest rooms? If not then i dont follow its not cut and dry which other one would it fall under nec 2017?
