A quick question for those with knowledge of NEC history. When did it become a requirement for all outlets to be grounded and subpanels to have the neutral isolated?
Thanks in advance.

RJJA,

I started in 1967 and it was like that then! I don't know the exact code cycle year of it's conception.

Re: residential grounding requirements

I have a '62 NEC. It has the requirement in section 250-74 Bonding at Grounding-Type Receptacles.

The same year for separating the equipment ground and the grounded conductor at subpanels.

Re: residential grounding requirements

In some late 50's/early 60's homes I've worked in, NM cable with an EGC was used in only parts of some circuits. For example, in a bathroom remodel, the circuit home run (with EGC) from the panel went to the bath light fixture; from there to the switch (3-cond. for the sw. leg) and for the rest of the circuit, there was no EGC.

I'm sure the kitchen was done the same way: run cable with the EGC to the necessary boxes and no further.
