Is there any code reason to not put a HVAC disconnect close to an inside corner of a residence? A house I am wiring is having a condensor unit placed into the inside corner, ( it is the outside of the garage and the garage had a little jut out at it's side..hence the inside corner), and I don't recall any prohibition, but thought I would ask anyway before drilling through brick.

Thanks,

For your end its about 110.26,to the AC guy its about ventilation. Its been a problem for way over 25 years.Years ago inspectors never pushed it,use to see them ac units right under the meter.

You're welcome.

Where do we send our bill? :D

No Hablo Englais Senior!

On a serious note, I have just looked around my neighborhood, and there is not a code compliant disconnect in sight. (Several new and newly remodeled homes) On the bright side, one of my 3 are legal. I assume the inspectors bless it at rough in and ignore it from there. How often are we hanging around when they actually set the condensor? Here the HVAC company hooks up to the preplaced disco so I guess the violation would fall into their lap.

I always consider equipment placement, but since the condensors are not there, never thought of the 110.26 in that respect for the disconnects.

On this one I would need 12-2, 10-2. Is there such an animal???

It would depend on the minimum circuit ampacity listed on the nameplate. Smaller units, or highly effiecient ones, can get by on a 20- or 25-amp breaker.
