I was offered a job managing a residential service company. Most of my experience has been commercial
and light industrial. You can say I am a seasoned commercial electrician. I have had residential experience
but in moderation, most of the contractors I have worked for were commercial and wanted very little to do with residential. I have always found that residential service electrician are more of a sales driven person. I have also heard horror stories from actual residential electricians of the tactic used on homeowners. the job pays very good and it will be more than what I make now. just not sure if I can handle the sales side of job.

any advise? :?

Yes, sell the work, and at the same time be honest, and above all else, keep your word, home owners will pay you well for an honest days work.

I would advise you to talk to the company you will be working for and see what they expect.

Some of these companies have a sales quota and you either make it or you are out the door. Some are less high pressure. See what you are getting into.

And don't forget there have been many code changes in last few cycles regarding how we typically do residential installations, if you don't keep up on those changes they can bite you.

Make sure you know who they are and how they operate. I just did a job for a lady that called me and asked how much to change out a panel. I told her i would have to look but gave her a range. She said she would like that because the company she called quoted her a price 3 times my highest estimate. I did go out and all she needed was a main breaker change, We did it for less than 1/4 the cost of their change out price. When she called to say she did not want them to do it they charged he a 25% cancellation fee. She had some other work done by them for A/C and they had her credit card # and charged it unauthorized. (she is perusing that with board of contractors) This is a large multi state company that pays their techs on sales commission so they try to up sell and oversell. They have a very bad rep here but still seem do do a lot of business. Flood the market with advertising. I like to make money but i also like to sleep at night.
