Yes, what is required is one 20 amp laundry circuit. This can supply both the dryer and washing machine.

Wiuldn`t you have to take the combined motor load int consideration ?
210.11(C)(2) Is for the required laundry branch circuit. It references 210.52(F) which requires at least one receptacle outlet for the laundry on a 20 amp circuit. No where in either section is the combined motor load, or for that matter, any load mentioned.

What about the section that states that if the connected equipment used more than 50% of the circuit's ampacity, it has to be a dedicated circuit? I don't know what clothes washers typically draw, off hand.

Isn't the 50% rule for equipment that is fastened in place? A washer or dryer usually just sits on the floor and isn't fastened in place so the 50% rule wouldn't apply.

What about 430.53 would this apply ?
Does this section apply to cord and plug connected motor driven appliances?

The scope of Article 430 as written in 430.1 doesn't mention cord and plug connected motor driven appliances, so I'm not seeing as how 430.53 would apply to a washer and dryer.

mdshunk,

We're talking about a 1/3 hp motor which is roughly a 2-amp motor load on a gas dryer. The control circuit is going to be even less.

1/3hp of a single phase 115v. motor load is 7.2 amperes,combined with the standard size washer of 10 amperes..

I don't have a clue what gas dryers and washers draw. I was just offering that into the mix, if it applied. I do know that some inspectors rule that large cord and plug connected appliances are considered "fastened in place", even though they aren't technically bolted down.

I have always hit a circuit for a washer and a circuit for a gas dryer and we bid 240 dryer prewire with it so maybe I am speaking as a creature of habit ;)
