I have restroom with toilet and sink no and no shower. Would this be considered bathroom and all receptacle require gfci? I looked at definition of bathroom NEC 2017 article 100 but not sure

A sink is a basin

Bathroom. An area including a basin with one or more of
the following: a toilet, a urinal, a tub, a shower, a bidet, or
similar plumbing fixtures.

It's funny because you would think that to be a bathroom it actually would have a toilet or urinal but neither of those are required for it to meet the defintion. Pretty dumb definition. When someone says they need to go to the bathroom it's means they gotta go.

I guess if there is only a basin, it’s OK for a shock to knock you on your butt and hit the floor, but if there’s another fixture in the room, you’ll crack your skull when it hits the other fixture? 🤪

If a room doesn't contain a toilet or urinal it should not meet the definition of a bathroom. To say a room with a basin and tub is a bathroom is stupid.

If there's only basin and there's a receptacle outlet within 6' of the basin, the receptacle outlet would still have to be GFCI protected.

Then it should be called a toilet room. A bathroom should have a tub or shower for bathing.

We should change to say “I am in need of your room designated for defecation and/or urination”. We need to make our intentions clear. 🥸

When I was a kid, my dad had a favorite joke when people asked to use the bathroom; he’d say “You look clean and don’t smell, why do you think you need a bath?” It was one of those “dad jokes” that was probably funny the first time, but not the 400th time…

This is partly why asking for the bathroom in a foreign country can have unexpected results.

Maybe they should change the code to say that GFCI protection is required in any room that contains water or liquid utilization equipment, or any receptacle within 6’ of water or liquid utilization equipment. 😳
