Hello, a customer has in the middle of his garage a band saw and a couple other tools. He will only be using one at a time. So i was planning on running a Dedicated circuit sized for the largest piece of equipment. He also wants it on a 4' track system and retractable. I have not done drop cords for years and at that time i was just told what to do.
So looking at 440.10 (A)(1) Seems to be were i am allowed to supply a receptacle from a flexible cord. Looks like the Sow i have around the shop will work since it designated *7 on the Type letter on table 400.4.
I was trying to find a strain relief that is retractable, then i was going to make some trolley system out of uni strut. I can't find any retractable strain reliefs?

While Searching i found

So my next question is if I install a dedicated circuit in the ceiling with an outlet. That is were the NEC stops correct?
so Any Plug-in Retractable drop cord, as long as I follow there instruction would be fine. The one I linked i would not use, I would still use a Single receptacle and properly sized wire.
I am also aware that some of these cords ratings are only when fully extended.
If any of you have a better idea please let me know. I never do this type of thing, and now 3 bids require this.

Adds credibility to the Code requiring all 125v garage receptacles being GFCI including ceiling receptacles.

Look up Hubbell cord reels.

I think Daniel Woodhead has some good products as well

Some cord reels are not well ventilated and the manufacturer states that the cord on the reel can only carry its full rated amperage if the cord is fully extended from the reel.
Good practice locates the reel such that the cord will be fully extended when in use. But sometimes different placements of the connected machinery will lead to partial extension in some positions. In such cases consider a weighted drop loop over a pulley instead of a cord reel.
