Reusing Asbestos

Not a NEC issue. What I have heard is its OK if not friable, but should be removed. We used to have a lot of asbestos cement water pipe, most abandoned in place, if removed it needs to be kept wet.

There's a Transite water main buried outside my house heading into the center of town, still in use. My BIL has a Transite soil stack in his 1950 house, also featuring crumble-wire Romex.

Used to have Transite gas vents in my houses years ago, got rid of them when asbestos started becoming a issue.

One house we owned had hard (non friable) asbestos board lining the furnace closet because the necessary open air clearances were not met. Also had a sheet metal shield between the flue pipe and the ceiling penetration instead of triple wall pipe.
Did not touch any of it.
