Yup...true...born and raised here. :) But on the downside the economy lags behind the rest of New England and the cost of living is very high ($200,000 for a small house with no land)...taxes and fees are beyond outrageous.

RI is a very tough state.

You have to be registered with the state as a business, have a masters license in the company name, a journeyman's license to physically do the work and a permit.

If you don't have any of these they WILL find you and fine you.

The inspectors there have a lot of spotters that report unlicensed and non permitted work.

I have seen it happen.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. This was not a job I was "wanting" to do, just one I was "willing" to do. As I said in OP, I was doubtful it was possible.

As a little guy, I lived in Providence, I think they just want to keep out the EC's from those hick towns in Mass!

Funny story. I have a friend who own a decent sized shop and wanted a RI license. MA is reciprocal with RI, but RI is not reciprocal with MA. RI is reciprocal with a state out west, Washington I think. And MA is reciprocal with WA, too. My buddy tried to get a WA license thinking he could then back door himself into RI with the reciprocal. But RI only reciprocates with "natural" WA licensees. doh! Again ICBW with which western state it is, but you get the gist.

they don't need lots of spotters...they just look out their window and see the entire state....(it's a small state:D)
