Almost 5 years use out of a Rigid is pretty darn good.
If used hard... it is good for any pro grade tool.

Tools wear out. It's time to buy a new one.

Thats what I told them at Ridgid Co.but it will not be their's

Warrantys are tricky at best and companies gamble on most folks not using their rights given them in the warranty documents. I actually had a life time warranty on a fly rod I purchased. It snapped while I was on a fishing trip which was upsetting , the company honored the warranty but had a riduclous handling fee and told me their lifetime warrant was no longer in effect and any future warranties for this rod would not be honored.

Durn If I'll ever purchase from them again. Oh and it took months for the NEW rod to be shipped.

you just didn't raise enough "stuff" at big orange!! you get the right manager on it and they'll take it back!!! they have an agreement with rigid--"unconditional" is the word!! milwalkee used to be their prime power tool contract -- but they couldn't live up to home depots abuse!!! i watched a guy return a rigid portable tool setup-- the one that has every tool they make and soft bag to carry all the "stuff" in!!! i was behind him in the return line.. he was a drywall contractor so you can imagine what this bag looked like!!! and it looked to me that it had to be five years old and stored in the bed of an open pick up truck!!! first question the return cashier asked "do you have your receipt?". "no", he replied. "i want to trade it in on a new one" ---"this one is broke"! they called the manager --he came over , took one look and told the guy to get a new one off the counter and exchange it! i was shocked!!!

in a lowes store i saw the same thing happen with a power paint sprayer- the big one ($500.)... paint was still dripping out on the floor when the contractor brought it back! and it didn't only look used--this thing was "abused"!!

now for fly rods ---thats a different story! i caught a large tarpon and we were trying to revive it along side my moving boat before releasing it, when it flipped up onto the deck and broke my st. croix ultra lite fly rod in half. i sent them a letter and the receipt and they sent me and upgraded rod in a beautiful travel case-- a week later? first class manufacturer..

I agree....the squeaky, very loud wheel gets attention.

Raise enough heck and often you will get what you want, these employees just want an easy day and if you make it tough for them they have no problem authorizing exchanges, price reductions.

I got a free (well it cost $0.01) $250 VCR from Best buy because I would not just shut up and leave.

Orvis was excellent with a different rod I broke, the rod I had an issue with broke on a back cast, maybe the 2rd or 3rd cast ever, besides trying it out at the store in the parking lot. I am fortunate as I live near an Orvis store so I buy from them quite a bit (well maybe not quite so fortunate as I might spend more money than I might if I was not so close) . I have broken 3 rods, backed over one.....Anyone attending the East Coast FF show in NJ end of this month?

Talk about off subject.

Cmon, we need details. :D

A long story, but basically I had been given a $130 store credit and was told I could apply it to any item I wanted. When I went to do that suddenly the story changed......I was not about to just say OK.

The best folk that I have dealt with on tools with lifetime warranty was Sears. Last year I took a torque wrench back that seized up and would not adjust. I did not think there was any chance they would replace it as I bought it almost 30 years ago and had no receipt, box or anything. I was told it was no longer available but they replaced with their best model, no questions asked.:)

That's funny, because I have two broken ones, and the clerks swore that torque wrenches were one of a couple of tools that didn't have the lifetime Craftsman warranty. I looked it up online, and that's a fact. Guess you got lucky.

I didn't know they were excluded, guess the clerk who exchanged it didn't know either.:)

Did it say "Craftsman" or "Sears"? The Sears tools do not have the warranty.

No, definately Craftsman. Their warranty on hand tools excludes torque wrenches and precision measuring tools.

Off topic is good on a Saturday night. :)

I had been planning to be there, several of my friends will be there and was hoping to meet up with them. Got a better offer I couldn't refuse and am going to New Orleans instead...

Re the lifetime warranties, the fly rod industry nearly imploded when they jumped on that warranty bandwagon, and all the major manufacturers are backing away from them now because they have to. They'll still honor them, but as you found out some of them are charging pretty huge handling fees or else they're replacing the rods and the replacement has a more limited warranty. Etc.
