We have some light blue Romex in the condo I am in built in the 80s I think. I think the light blue is #12 and all the #14 is white
In the 80's Southwire was using all kinds of random colors for the jacket. When you purchased you never knew what your were going to get. Could be white, gray, black, blue and I think there was even a blue/green color. Back then NM was in cardboard boxes not the current clear shrink wrap.

#14 is already white. That's also different than yellow, wouldn't you think? There is no code rule for the color of NM cable!
I agree about the Rule-- but most manufacturers have started yellowing the 12 gauge. I'm assuming the blue was for the 14/3. From what others have said, different manufacturers may be coloring their wire as 'trade dress'-- "Our wire is Blue!"

I wish they would differentiate between #8 and #6 NM. Not only are the sheaths the same color, the dot-matrix 8 and 6 digits are hard to tell apart.
