Why those the low volt transformer keep blowing up?
This is my fifth transformer I install.
And it only powers ring doorbell camera for 10 to 20 minutes and then it burns the transformer.
It’s the camera or the circuit.
Anyone been through this before?

I even replace the low wire thinking it was shorting somewhere in the wall

Then I got a new ring door bell camera thinking it was the camera that was faulty

And still blows it

1875ma on secondary output doesnt seem like much at all. Have you checked the load requirements for Ring?

Is there a chime in the circuit? The camera is not supposed to be connected directly to a transformer.
Agreed. In the absence of a chime, you are supposed to install a resistor in series. I would assume it's in the doorbell documentation somewhere.

A traditional chime in the circuit acts like a current limiter. Without it, the poor little transformer won't last long.

I took out the old chime.
That's why I asked. The camera is meant to have a doorbell in series with it.

See post #6. You need a 25-ohm, 50-watt resistor in place of the chime.

Or, install a chime/doorbell somewhere.

And, yes, the resistor will be warm 24/7, expending power as heat.

That must be a different model.

Yes, that diagram must be for a first generation Video Doorbell. The following has wiring diagrams for a second generation Video Doorbell, and it shows that an existing doorbell or a resistor needs to be place in series to limit the current.

I have a 2nd gen, and it is not wired like any of the diagrams in your link. It is connected per the link I posted. He must have a 1st gen (diagram is the last diagram in your link).

Some of the last ones I installed required a jumper in the chimes if there was one. All I have installed without a chime/ding-dong, have required the resistor.

All the transformer is doing is keeping the battery charged.

Thanks to everyone, I bought the resistor and I’ll be installing it tomorrow
