I have a PE telling me that all references to RMC in a drawing package should be changed to GRSC.

Rigid metallic conduit is a category recognized by the NEC. I do not see any reference to GRSC in the NEC. RMC includes both aluminum and steel.

I have concluded that GRSC is a subset of RMC. Is there a type of RMC that is not GRSC but can be buried. Some sort of coated or treated aluminum perhaps.

billyzee,

344.2 (NEC 2005) " RMC is generally made of steel with protective coatings

or aluminum. Special use types are silicon bronze and stainless steel."

If I see the letters 'RMC' on any print or spec, I'm going to ASSUME it's GRS unless specified otherwise. The other types are not very common.

I wonder if that PE was having lots of trouble with guys substituting really expensive metallic rigid conduit types where rigid steel would have sufficed? ;) This seems like a detail that could be left out. Just be specific if you want something weird.
