Rolling of coiling of Cable, NEC VIOLATION?

If I understand correctly, that would be a situation that would worry me.
The cable that is coiled has three phases, and EGC? If the EGC is not connected the cable gets hot, but if it is connected, it doesn't? ASAP I'd take an amperage reading on the EGC while it is connected. It sounds as if there might be something wrong with the load and the EGC is carrying unbalanced current - and maybe the frame of the crane, too.

Well SAC were just the electrical contractor and supply power to the cranes from the service on all our jobs the crane itself is in the hands of the company who installs them we never touch there equipment.

Meaning its a one time connection there electrician is on site during hook up time we ground it with ground rods to frame we install disc switch thats it .

Ill check it monday just to see if it has a amp reading thanks for the help
