Question came up in class last night I think you can but they say you can't. Can you put a 12/2 and a 14/2 romex under the same romex connector? I think you can but most are saying that you can't??:-?

This would be in the manufacturers information. I know some are listed for more than a single cable, but I don't know if combinations of different sizes is specific to the information.

FWIW, I think you are correct.

Do people still use those metal two screw connectors?
You're saying that like they're some sort of antique fitting.

Yes, that's mostly what I use. I recently switched to the snap-in version of the two-screw NM connector.

I thought those went out in the late 60's. I still stock them and use them in certain applications but anywhere that I have to use a metal box with MN I go with plastic snap ins (T&B)

There are several different types of snap in plastic connectors.

No lock nut and no screws = easier. No metal = less likely to short.

For multiple cables

For single cables
Can't find a pic but it looks like a plastic snap in bushing with retainer "fingers" in the center.

I curse those box connectors!

I do mostly service work, and as such, I swore I'd never use those connectors. They're a real "treat" to get a cable out of. I'm sure they do make the install fast, however. As far as shorts go... well, if that's a problem for you when using metal connectors, I'm going to commandeer your screwdriver.

I do use the "black buttons" on occasion, for flush items like strip lights and range hoods. They're not so bad to get a cable back out of if the need arises.

I agree with Marc, and I knew you we're going to post a pic of those god awful plastic pieces of garbage!!!

What do you normally do for two 14-3 or 12-3 in 1 connector?

I used to feel the same way. Then I started working for a company that only buys that kind of connector. You learn to like them really fast. ;)

Since them, I've preferred them over other connectors. I guess they really brainwashed me.

Does each box of them come with a special packet of Kool-Aid? :D

You company does mostly new work, and not so much service, I'd guess? If I did mostly new work, they'd be what I'd use too.

I like the RCR 50 from Seagull I believe. Can be used inside the box or outside as well. It snaps in with no additional tools necessary to insert/secure the wire.
