Shkreli was convicted of securities fraud - nothing to do with insider trading. He was essentially operating a pyramid scheme.

So Berkshire bought a wire producer. They buy companies all the time. They certainly wouldn’t buy a company if they didn’t think it was poised to do well.

I don’t get your point at all.

Why is that? Not saying you are wrong just curious. Do you think commercial construction has slowed much more due to the pandemic than residential construction? What about during normal times? how much NM do you think is used versus MC in the entire country in a given time.?
HD and Lowes dont sell much for commercial construction, their primary focus is home owner and DIY so not much MC being sold compared to NM.

What you're seeing is the rise in copper prices catching up with NM first because it's used more. Once more people realize older stock MC is still being sold cheaper, some number will switch to it. Then when that stock is used up MC will rise above NM again. Unless the post-covid shifts enough to drive copper back down again.

I haven’t bought 10/3 in a long time. Don’t even recall what I last paid for it.

Hunt is the 1 supply house around here that will sell 10/2 and 10/3 by the foot. That may help in some cases. Big boxes do too but much higher.

Yes but Hunt can be expensive but they were my main supplier for 40 years. Now, of course they finally got some competition from City Electric ... How come I never ran into you there? Someday we will have to meet for lunch....

The price of some products are linked to other similar products. For example, steel studs are priced based on the market price of lumber. Engineered lumber is priced based on wood. It is possible the price of MC is based on the price of NM.

There is a logic to this. If the price of lumber goes up and steel studs do not go up accordingly, the manufactures of steel will be flooded with orders they cannot fill and will miss out on an opportunity to reap more profit.

Yeah but there's a time it takes for adjustments as well. Lately certain things have risen so fast others aren't responding accordingly. That's the subject of this thread.

Unlike gas prices, it takes no time to respond when price is in upward trend but very slow to respond on downward trend. I guess we'll see how responsive construction materials will be when on downward side. My guess we wont ever be back to normal.

Did you mean 'like' gas prices? If so I agree. Supply issues drive prices up faster than competition drives prices back down when supply is restored. And the short term will eventually be overtaken by the macroeconomics of inflation, at least as has been typical for a century or so now.

However, to use an electrical analogy, supply issues more likely cause fast prices changes when they are 'in series' with the product. MC is somewhat 'in parallel' with NM.

SSSH! guys dont tell everyone!!! :censored:
You'll blow our secrete.
Been using more and more MC for months now on resi work.

If you are shopping for alternative 'equivalent' materials which 'should' be more expensive but might be cheaper because of supply issues, be sure to price out stranded MC.

The last time I needed 12-3 MC, stranded was cheaper than solid.

I went there a fair amount from 2013 to 2019. I did a lot of work at UNC & several apartments in Chapel Hill. I may have seen you there & not recognized you.

Most people don't have to see me they usually hear me--- hahaha. There is one other electrician who used to work for me that is louder and more obnoxious than I am...
