Romex Installation

I'm helping my brother inlaw wire his entire house in New Jersey and have a question regarding the proper installation of romex.
1) Each beam penetration can contain only two romex cables but does each cable have to be stapled individually @ 2' intervals for both the horizontal and vertical runs?

2) Can you feed an external light on a timer from a GFCI protected outlet circuit?

Oh, okay. This must be a recent procedural change, since we used to see soon-closed questions by unqualified people before, and sometimes even squeezed in a response or two.

Truthfully that happens when we moderators get lazy.

If there is a back up of posts to approve some may not get the attention they deserve before we hit the 'approve' button.

Believe it or not trying to do the right thing is not always easy, if I can't clearly decide which way to go I approve it and let you all figure it out.

Did you also notice he is a IBEW member?

Last I knew that group had something to do with electricians. :roll:

The "sometimes three" reference is correct. You need to check the installation instructions that come with the staples. The length and width of the staples you have determines how many of what size may be placed under the staple when supporting the cable.

Just a reminder not to crimp the wire when you are securing it to the wood. The staple does not have pinch the wire in order to support it. It really sounds elementary, but you would be surprised how many times you find cables pinched or nailed on their edge.

BTW, does the "relative" rate pay better than the "buddy" rate in NJ?:D
